Lake Lanier Fishing Report
Its been a very strong week for catching numbers of Stripers. Every hump, point, Island, brushpile has fish on it. The magic depth is 15'. We are pulling rigs through 15' or less of water at 4-5 mph and wearing them out.
Live bait fishing on down lines have also been working extremely well. Fishing off of humps, right at its crest seems to be the hot ticket.

Fishing Umbrella Rigs.
Fishing this past week has been absolutely incredible. Humps, points and brush piles are holding tons of fish.
The mornings are started out fishing topwater with Redfins, ChugBugs and Super Spooks on light line. Then its off to pulling rigs. We are slamming them. These Stripers are holding shallow and close to points and tops of humps.

What an incredible Spring ! Its top water time. The last few days. in between rains have been very good for both Stripers and Bass.
10 pound line class spinning gear and your favorite top water plug, "will" get you bit. The only big key is, these fish are right up on the bank. Cast almost to the shore and look for the bite to happen immediately.

It's tough to get a bait past the hungry spots. These guys are hungry. Fish up or down the lake right now shallow. These fish are right on the bank, and are waiting for most anything to swim by. Its tough to even get a bait out without a nice Spotted Bass eating your bait before its even hooked to a planer board.

MOTHER NATURE !
YES!, weather affects fishing. It's been an off and on bite in the last couple of weeks. Massive amounts of rain, (thank God!) has driven the lake to better heights. Fishing at best has been fair. Most of the lake is stained from its normal clear waters and has fish confused.
Spots are still easy to catch right now. My favorite lure is a white Rooster Tail in 1 ounce on 6lb spinning gear.

Lake Lanier Fishing Report PHOTO 1 PHOTO 2
Fishing this past weekend was fair. Saturday early was a little tough due to higher winds than normal. Once the winds died a little towards the afternoon, fishing grew stronger.
Same tactics are applied, slow moving flat lined baits in Herring or Shiners are working well. Points and rip-rap seemed to be my best areas.

Its a very early morning and late evening bite. Fish are in the backs of major creeks in search of bait. This magnum spot was caught this morning close to a point, almost up on shore.
Water temps have dropped a few degrees from 54 main, to 51 main lake.
Strongest bite was 1/4 ounce jigs and flat lined live Herring.

Cooler air temps are back, temporarily.
The water has warmed up a good bit into the mid 50's. This also means the night time Bomber bite should be ON!
Fishing for bass this week has been an absolute BLAST! Any major point, rocks, brush piles, docks, are holding some fatty spots.
This is the time of year to remember the key word, SHALLOW!

OMG ! What a great day on Saturday. Weather was perfect, and the spots were eating like crazy.
Just for the fun of it, I went live bait fishing for Spots. I had an incredible high number afternoon filled with good quality fish.
Pulling live bait on flat lines over brush and points was the "hottest ticket". It was just good ! Every point and every brush pile was a hookup, most times a double and triple.
If your headed out this warm week, FISH SHALLOW !

Fishing

Goes!
We

fish

in

Dropped
good
lively
bait
and
they
would
not
touch
it.
So
we
trolled
Umbrella
Rigs
and
wore
them
out.
Then
they
stopped
eating
that
and
started
eating
single
jigs
on
Lead
Core.
They
quit
that
and
started
eating
Live
Bait.
Phew!
Then
like
a
light
switch,
shut
off
from
that.
The
fish
moved
from
over
a
100'
bottom
to
a
60'
bottom
and
we
started
catching
them
again.
Except
we
had
to
fish
right
on
the
bottom.
Instead
of
your
rod
doubling
over,
it
went
flat.
They
were
picking
the
bait
up
off
the
bottom
and
swimming
up!
